Oregon Humanities is looking for a skilled communicator and project manager to help us produce compelling audio and video content for podcasts, radio, and social media and grow the audiences for our podcasts This Place and The Detour. The ideal candidate for this position has experience marketing audio programming for podcasts or radio and is comfortable handling multiple ongoing projects with many collaborators. This is a full-time, permanent position.
Oregon Humanities connects people and communities through conversation, storytelling, and participatory programs to inspire understanding and collaborative change. Each year, we offer hundreds of public conversations and programs across the state, train and support dozens of discussion facilitators, and award grants and fellowships that help people connect, reflect, and cultivate a stronger sense of agency in their communities. In our magazine and on our website, we publish stories that explore the thoughts, perspectives, and experiences of Oregonians, especially those who have been ignored, generalized, or oppressed. Position description
The Communications Associate supports the communications, programs, and development teams by managing the production and increasing the reach of compelling audio and video content for podcasts, radio, and social media. This is not a supervisory position, but the Associate may direct the work of volunteers, interns, or contractors.
Audio storytelling and project management: 75%
- Develop and implement promotional plans for The Detour, This Place, and other audio products with the goal of growing listenership among podcast and radio audiences through paid ads, trades and partnerships, social media, and email marketing
- Coordinate production of The Detour, an interview podcast, working with the host, producer/editor, and radio station partners to plan, record, and distribute 12 or more episodes per year
- Coordinate production of This Place, a weekly five-minute podcast, working with Communications Director, editor, freelance producers, and external partners to identify guests, schedule and record interviews, and distribute edited episodes
- Work with Communications Director to develop annual production plans in alignment with Oregon Humanities’ strategic framework and annual goals
- Coordinate work with external editors and producers, including scheduling, invoicing, and payment
General communications support: 25%
- Create short-form video segments for Oregon Humanities' social media channels, in collaboration with communications team, that support and enhance existing publications, programs, and fundraising efforts
- Support development and programs teams in developing communications strategy and messaging
- Assist with conceiving and implementing marketing activities and events
- Assist Communications Director in creating opportunities for organization-wide staff to develop multimedia storytelling skills
Reports to: Communications Director
Work hours: 1 FTE (40 hours per week)
Status: Nonexempt
Compensation: $31–$34/hour, depending on experience ($64,480–$70,720 annual equivalent)

Residency: This role may be fulfilled remotely, but candidates must be residents of Oregon or Southwest Washington. Occasional travel within Oregon is required to perform this role.
Required qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience producing audio or video for cultural, community, or media organizations
- Demonstrated experience marketing audio programming (podcast or radio) and growing listenership
- Understanding of podcast distribution platforms and audio editing software; and fluency with Google Workspace and Zoom
- Experience using social media and email to engage diverse audiences
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively
- Willingness to travel within Oregon up to two weeks per year for events and recording sessions
- Willingness to do occasional work outside in evenings and on weekends
- Commitment to equity and inclusion in the workplace and in public programming
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience producing video content for social media
- Knowledge of public/community radio operations
