Request for Proposals: Equity and Inclusion Coach/Consultant

Oregon Humanities is seeking a coach or consultant to work with our statewide board of directors on a clear plan of working toward our vision of inviting diverse perspectives, exploring challenging questions, and striving for just communities. With the help of this coach/consultant, we would like to evaluate our past and present efforts in recruiting and retaining board members from historically marginalized and oppressed communities, and to develop policies and practices to improve these recruitment and retention efforts moving forward. Guiding documents for this process include our 2018-20 strategic plan; a diversity, equity, and inclusion strategic framework; recommendations from a staff inclusion work team; and the Oregon Humanities Equity Lens.

As an organization committed to bringing Oregonians together across differences, beliefs, and backgrounds, we are keenly aware of the need to nurture a culture of equity and inclusion across all facets of our statewide organization.

We are especially interested in and open to proposals that include a workshop or training with board members that can draw out barriers to efforts by organizations to fully embed equitable and inclusive board practices and policies due to history, bias, language, and systems of oppression and discrimination. We want our board to come out of the process not just with a better understanding of these barriers, but also feeling inspired, confident, and motivated to move forward.

Oregon Humanities values equity, justice, empathy, and respect as key attributes of vital, flourishing communities. We encourage proposals from candidates or organizations with diverse backgrounds, particularly those from historically underrepresented groups.

This is a short-term, contract position with a provisional budget range of $5,000—$8,000. Please respond to this RFP with a brief statement (no more than a paragraph) that sums up your interest and qualifications, a proposed work plan, and your rate schedule. We hope to begin this process no later than August 2018. Our full board meets three times a year in February, June, and October.
