Idea Lab (formerly Happy Camp: Summer Honors Symposium) is a summer program where Oregon teens and teachers use the humanities to explore the pursuit of happiness and how it shapes our culture.
Idea Lab (formerly Happy Camp)
A summer institute for high school students and teachers
During a three-day residential institute on the campus of the University of Portland, sixteen Oregon high school teachers and one hundred rising seniors from across the state explore this topic through workshops, lectures, films, and discussions.
2012 Oregon Humanities Idea Lab Summer Institute will be held July 27-29, 2012, on the University of Portland campus.
There are two ways for Oregon Schools and districts to send their teachers and students to Idea Lab:
1. School/District-sponsored: Oregon schools/districts pay for one or more teachers to attend and also cover student costs at $150 per student to attend Idea lab.
2. OH-sponsored School: Oregon Teachers apply for one of the six paid positions, room and board included, and if selected, work with their school/district to award OH-funded scholarships to students to attend the Oregon Humanities Idea Lab.

Oregon Humanities has limited funds for sponsoring teachers and students to attend the Idea Lab Summer Institute. Therefore, we are always seeking new partner schools and districts that are able to fund their own teachers’ and students’ participation in the program. If you are a school administrator or teacher and think your school or district would be interested in being a partner school, contact OH Director of Programs Jennifer Allen at (503) 241-0543 ext. 118 or by email.
