Oregon Humanities Awards Two Responsive Program Grants
$1,309 will fund programs on banned books in The Dalles and the history and future of development in Eugene.

14 March 2011 | Permalink

Oregon Humanities has awarded two Responsive Program Grants, supporting organizations that respond quickly and thoughtfully to current issues and events shaping our world.

The Dalles-Wasco County Library Foundation will receive $309 for its Pub Talk program “Should Books Be Banned?” 7 p.m. on March 30, 2011, at the Clock Tower Ales Pub, 311 Union St., The Dalles. The discussion forum will be led by Candace Morgan, a board member of ACLU of Oregon and former chair of the American Library Association’s Intellectual Freedom Committee.

The Shelton McMurphey Johnson House will receive $1,000 to host a five-lecture series, “Building Modern Eugene,” featuring architects and scholars speaking on the history and future of development in Eugene. The lectures will be held at 6:30 p.m. on March 23, April 6 and 20, and May 4 and 18, at 303 Willamette St., Eugene.

Responsive Program Grants of up to $1,000 are awarded on an ongoing basis to nonprofit organizations in Oregon to fund projects and events that are not part of an organization’s regular programming. Instead, these grants support programs created in response to pressing, current issues or events that the applicant is uniquely qualified to help the public explore.
