$1,000 Grant Awarded for Modoc War Documentary
Oregon Humanities awards Responsive Program Grant for screening and discussion of OPB’s Modoc War documentary

20 October 2011 | Permalink

Oregon Humanities has awarded a Responsive Program Grant of $1,000 to the Klamath County Museum to support the premiere screening and post-screening panel discussion of OPB-produced “Oregon Experience: The Modoc War” on October 27, 2011, at 7 p.m. at the Ross Ragland Theater (218 N 7th St., Klamath Falls). Admission is free for both the film and panel discussion.
The Modoc War, which occurred entirely within the Klamath Basin, was one of the nation’s most prolonged and costly conflicts with any Native American tribe. It was the only war in which an Army general was killed, and it received extensive news coverage across the country and in Europe.

Panelists include Kami Horton, a graduate of Chiloquin High school and the producer of the film; Taylor David, spokesperson for the Klamath Tribes; David Kruse, superintendent of the Lava Beds National Monument; Mark Clark, professor of history at Oregon Institute of Technology; and Ryan Bartholomew, president of the Malin Historical Society.

Responsive Program Grants of up to $1,000 are awarded on an ongoing basis to nonprofit organizations in Oregon to fund projects and events that are not part of an organization’s regular programming. Instead, these grants support programs created in response to pressing, current issues or events that the applicant is uniquely qualified to help the public explore.

For more information, contact Jennifer Allen, Director of Programs, at (503) 241-0543 / (800) 735-0543 ext. 118, or by email.
