Media Advisory: Writer Brian Doyle Keynote Speaker at Youth "Happiness" Symposium, August 3, 2009, in Portland

WHAT: Brian Doyle, award-winning author and editor of Portland Magazine, will deliver the keynote address at the 2009 Summer Honors Symposium for teens that will focus on “The Pursuit of Happiness.” The symposium is a free, three-day event that gathers 100 Oregon teens from both public and private high schools to explore historical, spiritual, philosophical, and economic approaches to happiness, in workshops and reading discussions led by exceptional teachers from participating schools.
The annual symposium is sponsored by the Oregon Council for the Humanities, in partnership with nine public school districts across the state (Beaverton, Crook County, Hillsboro, Hood River Valley, Morrow County, Riverdale, Sherwood, Three Rivers, and Tigard-Tualatin), as well as six private schools (Catlin Gabel, De La Salle, Jesuit, Oregon Episcopal, Redmond, and Valley Catholic).
WHEN: Monday, August 3, at 5 p.m.
WHERE: Mago Hunt Recital Hall Auditorium, University of Portland, 5000 N. Willamette Blvd., Portland
COST: Free and open to registered participants
