Conversation Project 2010-11 Season Opens, Offers Free Community Discussions

Starting August 1, 2010, Oregon nonprofits can apply to host interactive, facilitated conversation programs.

Good topics, good facilitators, good discussions: that’s what people are saying about the Conversation Project: A New Chautauqua, which offers Oregon nonprofit organizations free programs that engage community members in thoughtful, challenging conversations about ideas critical to our daily lives and our state’s future.

Between August 1 and September 30, 2010, Oregon nonprofits may apply for Conversation Project programs that take place between November 1, 2010, and February 28, 2011. The Conversation Project, which connects Oregonians with public scholars and provocative ideas through idea-driven dialogue, is a program of Oregon Humanities (formerly Oregon Council for the Humanities).

The catalog, instructions for host organizations, and downloadable application form are available at oregonhumanities.org. Please also see the website’s events calendar for Conversation Project programs currently happening in counties around the state.

The 2010–11 Conversation Project lineup features sixteen programs presented by fifteen scholar-facilitators. Diverse topics span global and local concerns—from Iraq and mega cities to the urban/rural divide, Oregon’s land use policies, and alternatives to prisons.
