Enlightening and stimulating, provocative and informative: that’s what people are saying about the Conversation Project, which provides free programs for nonprofit organizations to engage community members in humanities-based discussions about critical issues and ideas. The Conversation Project is a program of Oregon Humanities.

Conversation Project programs bring people together to learn from an expert, share ideas, and understand differing perspectives on a given subject. Conversations are free to host, last between sixty and ninety minutes, and are led by humanities experts who have undergone training in facilitating public dialogue.

The 2011-12 Conversation Project lineup features twenty-six programs. Topics are diverse and include censorship in literature, the sesquicentennial of the American Civil War, black history in Oregon, science and democracy, Native American art in Oregon, and many more. Themed discussion series and programs offered in Spanish are also available.

Through January 31, 2012, Oregon nonprofits may apply for Conversation Project programs that take place between March 1, 2012, and June 30, 2012. The catalog, instructions for host organizations, and downloadable application form are available at oregonhumanities.org. Please see the website’s events calendar for Conversation Project programs currently happening in counties around the state.

For more information about the Conversation Project program and how to apply, please contact Oregon Humanities Program Coordinator Annie Kaffen at (503) 241-0543 or (800) 735-0543, ext. 116, or by email.
