Communities around the state have year-round access to free discussions through the Conversation Project, a program of Oregon Humanities that connects Oregonians with public scholars and provocative ideas.

The 2011–12 Conversation Project lineup features 26 programs that span diverse topics, including the use of natural resources, the history of Black people in Oregon, censorship, the Civil War, decision making in a democracy, and volunteerism in America. Programs scheduled from April 1, 2012, to June 30, 2012, are listed below by county. For more information about each program and to view the full events calendar, please visit oregonhumanities.org.

Through May 31, 2012, Oregon nonprofits may apply to host Conversation Project programs taking place between July 1, 2012, and October 31, 2012. Conversation Project provides free programs for nonprofit organizations to engage community members in humanities-based discussions about critical issues and ideas. Enlightening and stimulating, provocative and informative: that’s what people are saying about the Conversation Project, which provides free programs for nonprofit organizations to engage community members in humanities-based discussions about critical issues and ideas. The Conversation Project is a program of Oregon Humanities.

Conversation Project programs bring people together to learn from an expert, share ideas, and understand differing perspectives on a given subject. Conversations are free to host, last between sixty and ninety minutes, and are led by humanities experts who have undergone training in facilitating public dialogue.

The Conversation Project provides nonprofits statewide with free humanities-based public discussion programs, facilitated by humanities experts, about important issues and ideas. Oregon nonprofits may apply until May 31, 2011, to host Conversation Project programs taking place between July and October 2011.

Oregon Chautauqua reshaped to promote public conversations

Oregon Council for the Humanities seeks proposals for its new interactive, facilitated conversation program.
Oregon Chautauqua, a popular speakers bureau of the Oregon Council for the Humanities (OCH) that has reached statewide audiences for twenty-eight years, has been transformed into The Conversation Project: A New Chautauqua, which connects Oregonians with public scholars and provocative ideas through idea-driven dialogue.
OCH invites scholars who live or work in Oregon to submit proposals for the 2009-10 Conversation Project. The Request for Proposals may be downloaded at http://www.oregonhum.org or requested by e-mail from Program Director Jennifer Allen at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
