Free Summer Teacher Institute on Fundamentalism
Oregon Humanities offers teachers the chance to explore the social and political roots of fundamentalism.

Oregon secondary school teachers will examine the topic of religious fundamentalism at a free summer institute sponsored by Oregon Humanities.
“The Many Faces of Fundamentalism” is a free weekend program offered to Oregon secondary school teachers July 7-10, 2011, at the University of Oregon in Eugene. The registration deadline for the institute is April 15, 2011. Interested teachers may register online.

Free College Course for Low-Income, Salem-Area Adults

This summer, adults living on low incomes in the Salem area who want to explore challenging ideas about power, justice, knowledge, and community can participate in Humanity in Perspective (HIP), a free, one-semester, college-credit course in the humanities. HIP, a program of Oregon Humanities, is offered in Salem in partnership with Willamette University.

More than forty years after the civil rights movement, the average African American family has just one-eighth the wealth of the average white American family, and much of the disparity is due to differences in housing. Oregon Humanities has awarded a $1,000 Responsive Program Grant to Take III Outreach for its forum exploring the role of race in community development.
