Oregon Humanities invites nonprofits to host interactive, facilitated conversation programs happening July through October 2010.

Through the Conversation Project: A New Chautauqua, nonprofit organizations around the state have access to free programs that engage community members in thoughtful, challenging conversations about ideas critical to our daily lives and our state’s future.

From April 1 through May 31, 2010, Oregon nonprofits may apply for programs that take place between July 1 and October 31, 2010. The Conversation Project, which connects Oregonians with public scholars and provocative ideas through idea-driven dialogue, is a program of Oregon Humanities (formerly Oregon Council for the Humanities).

More than $58,000 in Grants Awarded to Oregon Nonprofits
Oregon Humanities awards grants for projects that reflect the power of new ideas about connection to place, community.

Eighteen nonprofit organizations throughout the state will receive more than $58,000 in grants from Oregon Humanities (formerly Oregon Council for the Humanities) for public programs that reflect the power of new ideas to create conversation about some of Oregon’s most divisive issues, including immigration and the Columbia River Crossing.

The 2010 Public Program Grant recipients are as follows:

Albany—$3,900 to the Friends of the Albany Public Library’s “Modern Voices Reading and Discussion Group,” focused on books that deal with globalism, world cultures, and place and community.

Bend—$4,000 to the Deschutes Public Library’s “A Novel Idea . . . Read Together,” a three-week community reading project... More

Through the Conversation Project: A New Chautauqua, Oregonians around the state have access to free community discussions year-round. The Conversation Project, which connects Oregonians with public scholars and provocative ideas through idea-driven dialogue, is a program of Oregon Humanities (formerly Oregon Council for the Humanities).

The 2009–10 Conversation Project lineup features seventeen programs presented by sixteen scholars. This season’s programs span diverse topics, including friendship, mega cities, the future of rural communities, media literacy, and reimagining the American prison system.
