Oregon Humanities and Reed College offer free, college-level humanities course in downtown Portland

Oregon Humanities is accepting applications for Humanity in Perspective (HIP), a free, two-semester college-credit course offered in Portland in partnership with Reed College. Curious, ambitious adults living on low incomes who want to explore challenging ideas about power, justice, knowledge, and community are encouraged to apply.

Oregon Humanities Names New Executive Director
Adam Davis takes the helm of the forty-two-year-old organization August 5.

The board of directors of Oregon Humanities (OH) has named Adam Davis as the organization’s new executive director, announced board chair John Frohnmayer on Monday. Davis comes to OH from the Center for Civic Reflection in Chicago, where he currently serves as director, and will officially assume his duties August 5.

Oregon Humanities’ 2013 Think & Drink series kicks off on Thursday, March 21 with a look at civic dissent and defense civil rights at the Mission Theater (1624 NW Glisan, Portland) from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. (doors at 5:00 p.m.). Communities around the state have year-round access to free discussions through the Conversation Project, a program of Oregon Humanities that connects Oregonians with public scholars and provocative ideas.

Oregonians who have something to say about the body, race, and wellness—or any subject having to do the physical side of being human—are invited to submit an essay or article for Oregon Humanities magazine’s spring 2013 issue on the theme “Skin.”
Contributors are encouraged to visit oregonhumanities.org to review the guidelines, download the complete call for submissions, and familiarize themselves with the publication. No phone calls, please.
